Though this course is at a basic level, it will give you the tools to ensure that you have taken a step in the right direction to prevent fires in your workplace.

According to the regulations relating to fire, your premises must be assessed for possible fire risks.

You must ensure that your business has a robust fire plan in place if you are the responsible party.

Managing your fire responsibilities does not have to be overly complicated.

Generally your findings will address.

Action requiring regular long-term reviews(annually)

Action requiring frequent (typically weekly) checks.

Some business owners believe that it is the fire companies’ responsibility to look after fire extinguishers, and that is correct.
As a business, it is your responsibility to ensure that these are checked regularly.

This course will assist you in achieving that goal.

Fire Awareness Course

The Health and Safety (Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006) and The Fire (Scotland)Act 2005 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees are safe in an emergency fire situation. This is all based on a risk assessment which will detail provisions necessary to control the risk.

Fire Awareness Course Objectives

The qualification is an ideal introduction into fire safety awareness for employees (help with fire duties) and a strong basis for undertaking further fire safety training. The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the key principles of fire safety from cause to prevention and response.

 Causes of fires in the workplace
 Basic fire safety duties and responsibilities
 Principles of fire risk prevention & control
 What to do if fire breaks out.
 Safe use of portable fire extinguisher
 Evacuation procedures

Who will Benefit from the Fire Awareness Course ?

 Suitable for those employees who have volunteered or been nominated by their employer to represent
the organisation as a trained emergency first aider, no prior first aid knowledge is needed.
 Or if you just want to have a basic understanding of first aid to help the family or friends.
 If you are in doubt call us to discuss your first aid needs.

Assessment Process

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor/assessor during the course, each student will have plenty of hands-on experience to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills in a relaxed atmosphere.
There is also a multiple-choice test at the end of the day consisting of 20 questions (don’t worry you will have all the knowledge to smash it!)

Number

 A maximum of 16 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate
can be offered to all, subject to assessment.
 A student cannot assume responsibility for fire in the workplace is 16 years old, and then it is the
employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role.
 During COVID the maximum number of students is 8, again this is dependent on site and classroom.
 An assessment will be conducted prior to going firm on numbers

Certification

The qualification does not have an expiry date but refresher training and keeping up to date with
changes to policies, procedures and new legislation.
